Perm - Savino - Bizyar - Perm
On 5 November a column of 14 snowmobiles, organized by the
Perm Off-Road Club assembled at the airport 'Big Savino' so that
to pave the path to Bizyar. Running a few steps forward I must
notify that we did not manage to pave the path up to the end though
we made a wide track stretching at the distance of 6 km of wild
desolate road. The general speed was 0.6 km/h.
In this expedition took part not only mature jeepers but also
beaten road amateurs on two vehicles, who had never done anything
like that before.

Though let's get back to the subject at hand. The
general assembly was at 9 sharp. Then vehicles one after another
rode along the track 'Uhaby' to the village Chuvaki. Then past
Chuvaki, Shadrino… having driven about 15km of the concrete-surfaced
road the participants began to gradually become a little nervous:
'What if all the road will be like this? How shall we become real
mud-waders if there is no mud to wade?' We immediately took a
strategic decision (worked out beforehand) to explore the surroundings
in search of old tracks and the shortest way to the destination.
It must be added that before the expedition there took place a
short briefing where the participants were given the map of the
track which could help them in getting their bearings. The old
track relying on one map just a path, according to the other a
road was found very quickly. This very road became the route of
the expedition until it got dark.
Comparing this trip with the same one-day trip (Bizyar - The White
Mountain) conducted by the Club earlier, it should be said that
the track to the White Mountain was drier. This could be an explanation
of such low total speed, in fact this is the speed of a standard
car. (several sports cars, participating in the trip pushed aside
all obstacles).
Now when the trip is over we are looking forward to new actions
of the Perm Off-Road Club.
You will find the data about where and what it will be like on
our site.
Keep in touch.

Savino - Bizyar: Along a Short Path
'Do not believe those people who say that there are no roads in
Russia. There are roads! They are just impassable…'
Bearing in mind the trip to the White Mountain last year we could
not imagine that the action 'Savino - Bizyar', accurately mapped
out sitting at table and having a cup of nice tea would turn out
not a one-day action but the other way round. That is why it would
be more right to call it Savino - Bizyar: Along a Short Path.
You might ask why. We will answer because the route which we so
well worked out and printed on two sheets of A4 paper was supposed
to be 63 km long but happened to be…all in good time. It is better
to start from the very beginning.

November 5 was a weekend. Like all common people
I prefer to have a lazy morning and stay in bed long at weekends.
But that time I woke up even earlier than my alarm-clock. The
temperature was quite suitable for outdoor activities. It must
have been one of the last warm days of the year if not the last
(+10C). While coming to the airport Big Savino I bore a question
in mind: 'How many adventure amateurs will change warm cozy homes
into mud, off-road and nature?' When I appeared I saw that there
were yet 'crazy' beaten track amateurs in Perm and they were not
few.
We all exchanged greetings: 'Hello! O-o-o! Hi!' then there was
falling in, a roll-call, giving out the maps, the organizers'
farewell wishes and thus we were ready to start in a high mood
and with an ice-cream in the mouth from a nearby caf?.
Passers-by and passing cars could not tear their eyes off from
that fantastic column of 14 off-road vehicles. Believe me this
view is worth seeing! The sun had already risen on the horizon,
it meant that the weather favoured us wishing to 'get thrilled'
with us.

At first as it had been promised the road was asphalt-surfaced
then concrete-surfaced. It seemed even a bit boring until we realized
that we had gone too far and lost our way in accordance with the
planned route. We did not feel like coming back and determined
to follow another track which relying on our map had to lead us
to our route in 500-600 meters.
The action happened to be not so easy and took us two hours to
go on rough land.
Thanks to mature 100% professional 'battle-hardened' landrovers
and surely their pilots we common unprepared amateurs could overcome
those several hundred meters.
When we finally reached the distance of our route I was more than
shocked, astonished, surprised etc. The matter was that I supposed
to see a real track but what I saw could hardly be called a track.
I felt that some time ago it used to be a track but since that
time much changed.
According to the plan we began to move toward Bizyar all the time
checking the positions in GPS navigator. It was indeed very convenient.
It must be admitted that riding on gullies is a special pleasure.
The track seems to be and in a second not to be! Now it is a path
but if you look better it will be a marsh .

Suddenly we came across such a huge ravine that
even the so-called 'Green Kozyavka' stopped. So we found an area
for going around the impediment and gradually vehicle after vehicle
all 14 cars managed to avoid the ravine. At that time we yet did
not know that there was other trouble in store for us.
Thus I must say that we moved from one impediment to another all
through the way. It got dark when we arrived at the concrete-surfaced
road. We got so much thrilled and excited while driving on rough
tracks that we were eager to continue the way but we understood
that the night with its darkness gave no chance for it. We could
have spent the night there but nobody had tents (as we had not
planned the trip to be so long).
Taking onto consideration all those circumstances we came to a
decision to come back to the city.
The city welcomed its heroes-pathfinders with the light of the
street lanterns and warm and cozy atmosphere of the caf? 'Pit
Stop'. There was a delicious dinner, quiet music, watching films
about off-road expeditions and an endless talk about this and
that at one big table.
We all felt a little tired and of course we were full of bright
impressions and unforgettable emotions.
To sum it up we concluded that along the planned route we had
driven 24km, from which 6 km were real rough off-road. Those 6km
took the whole light part of the day which is usually so short
in November .
I hope that one day we will make the route real and we will finish
it according to the preliminary traced course… but it will be
another story.
